Investigating the Industry

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been getting more and more curious about the gaming industry itself. We have learned a little bit about it in class, touching on the design process of a game and what comes with it, the design pipeline and possible job opportunities for each department. This was not enough for me though, as I have become quite interested in the idea of this being my future, although my teacher is convinced the years of tough work to come will scare me off. I would have loved to look further into the details of the general industry but sadly I have not had the time. Nevertheless, I have done some research.

The bulk of my curiosity came with the mention of an internship at a very popular game company, Epicgames. Although I did not meet the age requirements to get the position, it made me think more seriously about this becoming my career. I began to think about what would look good on my resume and where the best college might be to pursue this art. For years I have had my heart set on becoming a mechanical engineer, however, now I am beginning to second guess myself. Soon after this, I discovered that a lot of the things I have already participated in fit perfectly into this pathway. For example, the Girls Who Code program, years of art classes, miscellaneous coding workshops, any tech. development camps or workshops I could find, and a very large interest in the field.

Hopefully, I'll have more time to look into any possible positions, and the field in general during winter break.
