This year in Advanced Game Art and Design we have been tasked with a rather large project that requires us to split off into groups of three and make a game. Since we are working in such small teams, picking group roles is quite an important step. My group and I (Team Jackal) have decided that I will act as the producer and artist this year. I believe this is a good fit because I want a chance to lead and I love creating art.
Since I started in game design I have always struggled to decide what part of the industry I wanted to focus on. Coding was challenging but such a versatile skill; I've always had a soft spot for design; 3D modeling turned out to be one of my favorite creative outlets and I could spend hours on digital design. Being the head game designer quickly became my dream for this reason. I aspired to have a hand in everything, leading teams of people through the production process until we could all be satisfied with the final project. Being the producer in this project would be an amazing way to experience a smaller scale version of that and get a bit of practice in orchestrating such a large creative project.
I was open to trying roles other than the artist but my group members insisted and I wasn't going to complain about it. I have had a passion for art since I was tiny and I would never turn down an invitation to spend my time creating. Through the game art and design pathway I have become quite proficient in digital art and my years of traditional media studies have prepared me for any concept art and physical sketching that might be required of me.
