GDDs seem incredibly helpful in the game making process when they've been made the right way. While the information on them has to be consistently updating having all that information easily accessible for a team would make communicating an artistic vision a lot simpler.
Recently we made our own documents regarding our fantasy game ideas for later in the year. Even though I'll be the only one reading through the document and working on the project, just writing everything important down seemed helpful because now I can't forget any of the important ideas I had early on in the preproduction process. I'll have to work on writing down more about the mechanics of the game so I don't get anything wrong later on, but other than that I'm feeling pretty confident in where my idea is at.
